Bucephalandra sp.
Also known as: Green Wavy Bucephalandra, Bright Wavy Bucephalandra
Origin: Asia
Bucephalandra sp. 'Green Wavy' combines two attractive traits in a single plant: the characteristic undulating or wavy leaf margins of the 'Wavy Leaf' type with a distinctly brighter, more saturated emerald-green iridescence that differs from the deeper, darker tones of most collector Bucephalandra. The leaves are medium-sized at 3–5 cm, the margins are clearly undulated, and the iridescent sheen has a fresh, vivid quality that makes the plant appear luminous under aquarium lighting.
This variety is regarded as somewhat easier and more adaptable than the darker, rare Bucephalandra forms, making it an excellent bridge variety for aquascapers transitioning from Anubias to the broader world of Bucephalandra. It tolerates moderate hardness somewhat better than the most sensitive forms and grows at a reasonable pace with CO2 supplementation. The bright-green iridescence is particularly attractive in nature aquascapes where it contrasts with the darker colouration of Anubias or Java fern.
Light: Low to medium; moderate full-spectrum light best displays the vivid emerald iridescence of the leaves. CO2: Recommended; CO2 supplementation improves growth and enhances the bright-green iridescent quality. Fertilisation: Bi-weekly liquid micronutrients; iron is the key element for maintaining the vivid emerald colour. Placement: Attach to driftwood or rocks in midground; the bright green contrasts well with darker epiphyte varieties. Propagation: Divide rhizome into 2–3 leaf sections; re-attach to fresh hardscape; establishes well within 4–6 weeks.
