Bucephalandra motleyana
Also known as: Motleyana Buce, Buce Motleyana
Origin: Borneo, Malaysia
Bucephalandra motleyana is one of the most widely cultivated species in the Bucephalandra genus and is often the entry point for hobbyists discovering the group. Its broad, smooth, elliptic leaves have a subtle blue-green iridescence and grow on a thick, branching rhizome. It tolerates a wider range of water conditions than many specialty plants and responds well to varied lighting intensities. Mature plants develop a creeping colony that can span a significant stretch of driftwood, producing occasional white-spathe flowers.
Light: Low to medium; 20–45 PAR; adapts to a wide range. CO2: Not required; beneficial for slightly faster colonyexpansion. Water: pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Planting: Attach rhizome to hardscape; tolerates partial substrate contact but not full burial. Growth: Slow; one of the more vigorous buce species once acclimated.
