Bucephalandra sp. 'Pygmy'
Also known as: Pygmy Buce, Pygmy Bucephalandra
Origin: Borneo, Malaysia
Bucephalandra sp. 'Pygmy' is prized for its miniature stature, rarely exceeding 5 cm in height even in optimal conditions. The rounded, dark-green leaves sit close to the rhizome, creating a dense button-like cluster that integrates seamlessly into rock crevices and fine hardscape work. It is one of the most forgiving Bucephalandra morphs, tolerating a wide range of water parameters and near-zero light conditions, making it popular with beginners venturing into specialty plants.
Light: Low; 15–30 PAR; higher light deepens leaf colour. CO2: Not required; thrives in low-tech tanks. Water: pH 6.0–7.5, tolerates soft to moderately hard water. Planting: Attach to hardscape; avoid burying rhizome to prevent rot. Growth: Very slow; propagate by splitting rhizome once multiple growth points appear.
