Bucephalandra sp. 'Red'
Also known as: Red Buce, Red Bucephalandra
Origin: Borneo, Malaysia
Bucephalandra sp. 'Red' is one of the most desirable colour morphs in the buce hobby, valued for the striking contrast between its bright red newly emerging leaves and the deep olive-green of mature foliage. The red colouration is most vivid in younger leaves and under medium to high lighting with moderate CO2 supplementation. Like all Bucephalandra, it grows slowly on a creeping rhizome and is best mounted on hardscape. It thrives in soft, acidic water that mimics its Bornean blackwater origins.
Light: Medium; 35–55 PAR; higher light intensifies red pigmentation in new leaves. CO2: Beneficial; 15–25 ppm enhances colour and growth rate. Water: pH 6.0–7.0, soft water (GH 0–8) preferred. Planting: Mount on driftwood or rock; rhizome must remain exposed. Growth: Slow; red colouration is most visible on new leaves during active growth.
