Bucephalandra sp. 'Wavy Green'
Also known as: Bucephalandra Wavy Green, Buce, Borneo Anubias
Origin: Borneo

Bucephalandra 'Wavy Green' is a cultivated form of the Bornean genus Bucephalandra, closely related to and potentially the same cultivar as 'Green Wavy' with slight variation in leaf texture and wave pattern. Like all Bucephalandra, it features the hallmark characteristics of the genus: dark green leaves with wavy margins and the distinctive blue-purple-green iridescent sheen that emerges under specific lighting angles — a property unique to Bucephalandra that no other aquarium plant genus possesses.
Bucephalandra species are found only in Borneo, clinging to wet rocks and driftwood in fast-flowing, crystal-clear streams with very soft, acidic water. In the aquarium they adapt as low-maintenance rhizome plants, attaching to hardscape in a manner similar to Anubias but preferring softer, more acidic water conditions.
The appeal of Bucephalandra lies in its extraordinary visual quality: the leaves appear almost lacquered with a deep, jewel-like surface that catches the light. In high-quality planted tank photography it creates a dramatic, gem-like centerpiece effect. Its slow growth and compact size make it suitable for nano and medium aquariums, foreground through midground placement.
Bucephalandra regularly produces small white inflorescences even underwater, adding to its uniqueness as a botanical specimen.
Light: Low to medium light (5–30 PAR). Iridescent quality shows best under moderate angled lighting. Avoid strong direct light which promotes leaf algae.
CO2: Optional. Grows without CO2 but benefits from low CO2 supplementation (10–15 mg/L) for improved growth rate.
Attachment: Attach rhizome to rocks or driftwood. Never bury. Use fishing line, thread, or aquatic glue. Takes 4–8 weeks to anchor naturally.
Water Quality: Prefers soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–7.0, GH 2–10). Sensitive to elevated GH and hard water over time.
Maintenance: Very low. Remove yellowed leaves. Monitor for algae accumulation on leaves in high-nutrient setups.
Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.5, temperature 22–28°C, GH 2–12.
