Callitriche stagnalis (Pond Water-Starwort / Gewoon Sterrekroos)

Callitriche stagnalis is a delicate native oxygenating plant forming loose floating mats of small bright green rosette-like leaves at the water surface and submerged trailing stems that oxygenate the water effectively. Common in Dutch and Belgian ditches and pond margins, it is an excellent low-growing oxygenator and spawning habitat for amphibians and invertebrates.

Grow in still to slow-moving water in partial shade to full sun. Spreads rapidly when conditions are favourable — thin out monthly to prevent covering the entire surface. Winter-hardy; can be overwintered in situ in most Belgian/Dutch climates. Excellent nitrogen uptake. Do not release into natural waterways outside its native range.
