Plagiochilaceae sp.
Also known as: Cameroon Moss
Origin: Cameroon, West Africa
Cameroon Moss (Plagiochilaceae sp.) originates from the humid, fast-flowing streams of West Africa and is rarely seen in the hobby, making it a sought-after collectible. Its broad, slightly translucent fronds overlap in layers unlike most Asian moss species, creating a distinctly different visual texture. It prefers cool to moderate temperatures and slightly higher water flow, reflecting its rheophytic origins.
Light: low to medium light; bright light may cause algae growth on fronds. CO2: beneficial; enhances frond density and vibrant colouration. Attachment: tie carefully with cotton thread to smooth rocks or driftwood. Trimming: trim sparingly; overly aggressive trimming can cause die-back from the base. Growth: slow; best propagated by carefully dividing established clumps.
