Ceratophyllum demersum (Hornwort)

Ceratophyllum demersum (Hornwort) is one of the most adaptable aquatic plants in the hobby, capable of floating freely or being loosely anchored in substrate. Its stiff, bristle-like whorled leaves provide dense natural cover for fry and shy species, and it grows prolificaly under almost any lighting condition. Hornwort is also noted for allelopathic properties that can help suppress competing algae growth.

No substrate or CO2 required. Simply add bunches to the aquarium and allow them to float freely or tuck stems loosely into the substrate. Trim regularly to manage growth — Hornwort can grow very quickly in nutrient-rich water. Discard rather than compost excess plant material as it can be invasive in natural waterways.
