Ceratophyllum demersum
Origin: Cosmopolitan (worldwide)
Ceratophyllum demersum, Hornwort, is a hardy, rootless, fast-growing aquatic plant found worldwide in rivers and ponds. It can be planted loosely in substrate or left floating — both work equally well. Its dense, needle-like whorls of leaves provide excellent fry shelter and snail egg predation prevention. A powerful natural nitrate and phosphate absorber. Tough enough to survive almost any water condition. A classic beginner plant that genuinely helps maintain tank water quality.
Float or plant loosely. No substrate or fertiliser requirements — absorbs nutrients directly from water column. Low to high light tolerance. Temperature 10–30 °C — one of the most cold-tolerant aquarium plants. May shed needles when adjusting to new tank — normal.
