Anubias heterophylla
Also known as: Congo Anubias, Heterophylla Anubias
Origin: Congo Basin, Central Africa
Congo Anubias (Anubias heterophylla) is one of the larger Anubias species, producing broad, stiff, leathery leaves with prominent venation that can reach 15–25 cm in length. Native to the Congo Basin river system, it is highly adaptable and exceptionally long-lived, making it a permanent fixture in large display aquariums. Its size and form make it particularly well-suited as a solitary specimen plant or as a bold background anchor on large driftwood.
Light: low light; adapts to a wide range of lighting conditions. CO2: not required; benefits from regular macro and micronutrient fertilisation given leaf size. Attachment: anchor rhizome to very large driftwood or allow to grow as a specimen on substrate with rhizome exposed. Trimming: remove old lower leaves as new growth emerges from the rhizome tip. Growth: very slow; propagate by rhizome division.
