Crinum calamistratum
Origin: West Africa (Cameroon)
Crinum calamistratum is a remarkable aquatic bulb plant from Cameroon with extremely long, dark green, tightly corkscrew-curled leaves that create a dramatic spiralling effect in the aquarium. It is slow-growing but virtually indestructible, adapting to a wide range of conditions and tolerating neglect well. Given time, it develops into a magnificent specimen plant with dense swirling foliage.
Plant with only the lower half of the bulb buried in substrate — burying the entire bulb causes rot. No CO2 required; tolerates low to medium light. Growth is slow but consistent. The curly leaves may straighten in very low light but maintain their tight spiral under medium light. Excellent in African biotope aquariums alongside Congo tetras and Anubias.
