Cryptocoryne albida
Also known as: Brown Albida Crypt, Thai Grass Crypt
Origin: Thailand, Myanmar
Cryptocoryne albida 'Brown' is a graceful, grass-like species native to Thailand and Myanmar. Its narrow, strap-shaped leaves display a characteristic brownish colouration with a subtly hammered texture along the blade. Growing to around 15–20 cm, it sits comfortably in the foreground or midground of aquariums. Like most Cryptocoryne, it can undergo 'Crypt melt' when first introduced but will rebound strongly once settled. It tolerates a wide range of conditions and does not require CO2 injection or strong lighting. The brown form is particularly valued for the warm tonal contrast it provides among greener plants in a scape.
Light: Low to moderate; intense light may bleach leaf colour — shade is preferred. CO2: Not required; adapts well to low-tech setups without CO2 supplementation. Fertilisation: Benefits from root tabs or nutrient-rich substrate; liquid ferts optional. Placement: Foreground to midground; plant in small groups for best visual effect. Propagation: Runners produced from the rhizome; separate daughter plants when established.
