Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae
Origin: Southeast Asia
Cryptocoryne balansae is a tall background Cryptocoryne producing long, narrow leaves with deeply corrugated surfaces that give it an unusual wave-like texture. It grows steadily once established and provides striking visual contrast alongside broad-leaved plants. A regularly stocked species in Dutch and Belgian shops, and a natural choice for Southeast Asian biotope aquariums.
Plant in nutrient-rich substrate at medium depth, burying only the base. Tolerates a wide range of water conditions from soft acidic to moderately hard. Low light is sufficient. Crypt melt may occur after transplanting — allow several weeks for recovery. Works beautifully paired with Vallisneria for a naturalistic riverine background.
