Cryptocoryne becketii var. petchii
Also known as: Sri Lanka Crypt, Petchii Crypt, Becketii Petchii
Origin: Sri Lanka
Cryptocoryne becketii 'Petchii' is a naturally occurring variety of C. becketii from Sri Lanka that remains slightly more compact than the type species, with pronounced wavy or undulate leaf margins. Its colouration ranges from olive-green to warm brown and it adapts readily to a wide range of aquarium conditions. Like all becketii variants it is very beginner-friendly, tolerating inconsistent fertilisation and low light without complaint, and spreading slowly via runners to form attractive, dense clumps.
Light: Low to medium; one of the most shade-tolerant Crypt variants. CO2: Not required; grows well in low-tech setups without injection. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs; benefits from iron-rich substrates. Planting: Plant in small groups; expose crown; good front-to-mid positioning in small tanks. Growth: Slow; very stable once established — minimal melt compared to other Crypts.
