Cryptocoryne bogneri
Also known as: Red Bogneri Crypt, Dwarf Red Crypt
Origin: Sri Lanka
Cryptocoryne bogneri 'Red' is a rare dwarf species from Sri Lanka, distinguished by its narrow, reddish-brown leaves and diminutive stature. It is among the smallest Cryptocoryne species in cultivation, rarely exceeding 8–10 cm in height, making it a prime candidate for nano aquariums. The red colouration deepens under moderate to bright lighting and with good iron supplementation. Like all Cryptocoryne, it establishes slowly but spreads steadily once acclimatised. It prefers slightly acidic, soft water conditions reflective of its native Sri Lankan highland streams. A patience-rewarding plant for the dedicated nano aquascaper.
Light: Moderate; stronger light intensifies red pigmentation — avoid very low light. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 supplementation encourages faster growth and denser colour. Fertilisation: Provide iron-rich liquid fertiliser regularly to support leaf colouration. Placement: Foreground; ideal in nano aquariums or as a small accent in larger scapes. Propagation: Stolons and offsets from the rhizome; divide when daughter plants are rooted.
