About

Cryptocoryne cordata is one of the most widespread Cryptocoryne species in Southeast Asia, found in shaded rivers and forest streams across Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, and Borneo. It produces large, distinctly heart-shaped (cordate) leaves with a prominent midrib and variable coloration from dark green to brownish or purplish depending on light. It is reasonably adaptable and undemanding for a larger Crypt, but appreciates good substrate nutrition and stable water conditions to perform at its best.

Care Guide

Light: Low to medium; deeper colours develop under medium light. CO2: Not required; beneficial for larger, more vigorous leaves. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate essential; supplement with root tabs every 3 months. Planting: Expose crown; allow 15–20 cm space per plant; best as a solitary specimen. Growth: Slow to moderate; can exceed 35 cm — best in tanks of 80 L or more.
