Cryptocoryne cordata var. siamensis
Also known as: Siamese Crypt, Red Cordata Crypt
Origin: Thailand
Cryptocoryne cordata var. siamensis is one of the most visually stunning Cryptocoryne varieties available to hobbyists. Native to Thailand, it produces broad, heart-shaped leaves with a boldly hammered surface, rich green on top and deep red to violet-purple on the undersides. Under appropriate lighting and with good iron nutrition, the red-violet tones spread across the upper leaf surface as well. It grows at a moderate pace and appreciates stable, established aquarium conditions. Frequent disturbance and water parameter swings should be avoided to prevent melt. Best suited to experienced planted tank keepers who can provide stable, nutrient-rich conditions.
Light: Moderate; stronger light enhances red-violet colouration without bleaching. CO2: Optional but beneficial; CO2 injection promotes fuller leaf development. Fertilisation: Iron-rich fertilisation important for colour; root tabs strongly recommended. Placement: Midground to background; allow room for the broad leaves to fully expand. Propagation: Runners from the rhizome; separate established offsets carefully.
