Cryptocoryne costata
Also known as: Rivet Crypt, Costata Crypt
Origin: Thailand, Malaysia
Cryptocoryne costata originates from the river systems of Thailand and peninsular Malaysia, growing submerged in moderate current with its long, narrow, prominently ribbed leaves flowing in the water. The leaves are distinctly channelled along their length, giving the plant an architectural, almost grass-like silhouette that contrasts beautifully with broader-leafed companions. While slightly more demanding than the most common Crypts, it settles well in mature, nutrient-rich aquariums and rewards consistent care with elegant, healthy growth.
Light: Low to medium; adapts to a wide range of lighting conditions. CO2: Beneficial; promotes more vigorous growth and larger leaves. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs; thrives in slightly silty substrates. Planting: Expose crown; can be planted in small groups for a reed-like midground effect. Growth: Slow; allow several weeks for establishment before expecting new leaf production.
