Cryptocoryne crispatula var. flaccidifolia
Also known as: Floppy Balansae Crypt, Soft Thai Ribbon Crypt
Origin: Thailand
Cryptocoryne crispatula var. flaccidifolia is a graceful variety of the widely distributed Cryptocoryne crispatula, native to Thailand. As the varietal name suggests, the leaves are notably softer and more flexible than the standard crispatula, with a gentle undulation along the blade rather than the strong corrugation seen in other varieties. Leaves are bright to medium green and can reach considerable length in optimal conditions. It tolerates a wide range of water parameters and is among the more forgiving of the tall Cryptocoryne species. A natural choice for the background of planted aquariums seeking an elegant, grass-like vertical element.
Light: Low to moderate; tolerates shade; longer leaves develop with more light. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 promotes taller growth in background positions. Fertilisation: Root tabs beneficial; liquid supplementation supports long-term vigour. Placement: Background; suits both low-tech and CO2-supplemented planted tanks. Propagation: Prolific runners; separate daughter plants once established.
