Cryptocoryne crispatula var. kubotae
Also known as: Kubotae Crypt, Narrow Ripple Crypt
Origin: Thailand
Cryptocoryne crispatula var. kubotae is a rare and distinctive variety from Thailand, characterised by unusually narrow leaves with a very strong, pronounced rippling or crisping along the entire length of the blade. The dark green colouration and fine, intensely textured leaves create a visual impact well beyond what the modest width of the leaf might suggest. It is one of the most texturally dramatic of the crispatula varieties and is particularly sought after for its unusual appearance. In cultivation it follows standard Cryptocoryne care requirements, adapting to a wide range of water conditions without particular difficulty once established.
Light: Low to moderate; the characteristic rippling texture develops regardless of light level. CO2: Not required; optional CO2 supplementation encourages taller, fuller growth. Fertilisation: Root tabs and moderate liquid feeding; nutrient-rich substrate preferred. Placement: Background; the narrow, rippled form is most impressive in large groupings. Propagation: Runners from the rhizome; divide once daughter plants are well established.
