Cryptocoryne longicauda
Also known as: Long-tailed Crypt, Longicauda Crypt
Origin: Borneo (Sarawak)
Cryptocoryne longicauda is found in the rivers and coastal wetlands of Sarawak, Borneo, where it grows both submerged and emergent depending on water level. Its long, narrow, dark green leaves give it a slender, graceful silhouette quite different from the broad-leafed Borneo Crypts, and it can reach 40 cm when fully established as a background plant in a spacious aquarium. It adapts reasonably well to aquarium conditions but benefits from soft, slightly acidic water and a mature, stable environment.
Light: Low to medium; taller growth achieved under moderate lighting. CO2: Not required; optional supplementation for larger, lusher leaves. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate with root tabs; peat addition beneficial. Planting: Expose crown; plant at the back or corner of the aquarium as a background accent. Growth: Slow; can reach 40 cm — allow adequate vertical space in taller tanks.
