Cryptocoryne minima
Also known as: Pygmy Malaysian Crypt, Minima Crypt
Origin: Peninsular Malaysia
Cryptocoryne minima, as its name suggests, is one of the smallest members of the genus, originating from the streams and rivers of Peninsular Malaysia. Its very small, narrow, elongated leaves in light to medium green grow on short petioles from a compact rhizome. It rarely exceeds 8–10 cm in height, making it a perfect foreground plant for nano aquariums or as a miniature accent in larger planted tanks. The plant establishes slowly but spreads reliably by runners over time. Standard Cryptocoryne care applies: stable water conditions, a nutrient-rich substrate, and avoidance of major parameter swings are the keys to long-term success.
Light: Low to moderate; suitable for the low-light conditions common in nano aquariums. CO2: Not required; performs well without CO2 in nano and low-tech setups. Fertilisation: Light substrate feeding with root tabs; minimal liquid fertiliser needed. Placement: Foreground; plant in small groups of 3–5 for a natural appearance. Propagation: Stolons; separate daughter plants carefully once rooted and established.
