Cryptocoryne moehlmannii
Also known as: Moehlmann's Crypt, Sumatran Crypt
Origin: Sumatra
Cryptocoryne moehlmannii is native to Sumatra, where it grows in shaded rivers and forest pools with soft, slightly acidic water. Its narrow, erect leaves stand more upright than many other Cryptocoryne species and display a pleasing dark green colouration that transitions to bronze-green under stronger light. It is among the easier Bornean/Indonesian Crypts to cultivate and adapts well to aquarium conditions once established, forming tidy clumps that spread gradually via short runners.
Light: Low to medium; bronze tones develop under medium light. CO2: Not required; grows steadily in low-tech setups. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs every 3–4 months. Planting: Expose crown; ideal in small groups for a tufted, reed-like midground effect. Growth: Slow; stable once established — one of the more reliable Indonesian Crypts.
