Cryptocoryne nevesii
Also known as: Neves' Crypt, Two-tone Borneo Crypt
Origin: Borneo
Cryptocoryne nevesii is a recently described species from Borneo, still very rare in cultivation at the time of writing. Its compact, oval leaves present an attractive two-tone colouration: medium green on the upper surface with reddish-purple undersides that are glimpsed as the leaves move gently in aquarium currents. This contrasting colour presentation is particularly appealing in well-lit aquariums where the undersides catch the light. As with other newly described Cryptocoryne, its care requirements align broadly with other Bornean species — soft, warm, slightly acidic water and minimal disturbance. A genuinely exciting new species for collectors.
Light: Moderate; sufficient light to hint at the red underside colouration is desirable. CO2: Optional; CO2 supplementation encourages faster establishment and growth. Fertilisation: Root tabs in substrate; regular light liquid feeding with micronutrients. Placement: Foreground to midground; keep in undisturbed, stable conditions. Propagation: Slow runner production; patience is essential — allow full establishment first.
