Cryptocoryne nurii
Also known as: Nuri's Crypt, Nurii Crypt
Origin: Malaysia (Pahang)
Cryptocoryne nurii comes from the rivers of Pahang, Malaysia, and is one of several heavily bullated Malaysian Crypts prized for their extraordinary leaf surface texture. Its broad, oval to lance-shaped leaves display a deeply pitted and blistered surface in dark olive-green to rich brown tones, creating an almost leathery appearance. It is moderately demanding, requiring stable conditions and nutrient-rich substrate, and is best appreciated as a midground specimen where its remarkable leaf texture can be fully admired.
Light: Low to medium; texture and colouration best expressed under warm, moderate light. CO2: Beneficial; supports establishment and maintains leaf quality. Substrate: Rich, nutrient-dense substrate with root tabs; peat addition helps acidify. Planting: Expose crown; use as a solitary specimen to highlight its leaf texture. Growth: Slow; very susceptible to crypt melt on relocation — handle minimally.
