Cryptocoryne nurii
Also known as: Rosen Maiden Crypt, Rose Nurii Crypt
Origin: Peninsular Malaysia
Cryptocoryne nurii 'Rosen Maiden' is one of the most coveted cultivars in the Cryptocoryne hobby, developed from the Malaysian species Cryptocoryne nurii. It displays spectacularly bullate leaves flushed with shades of rose, pink and brown, offset by contrasting pale venation. Each leaf is a unique pattern of colour and texture. It grows slowly, reaching around 20–30 cm, and thrives in soft, slightly acidic water with good nutrition. Strong iron supplementation is essential to achieve the fullest rose pigmentation. It is not a plant for beginners — stable conditions, patience, and attention to fertilisation are required to bring out its legendary colouration.
Light: Moderate; sufficient light for colour without bleaching — filtered or indirect light ideal. CO2: Optional but recommended; CO2 supplementation supports richer colour and texture. Fertilisation: Iron-rich fertilisation critical; root tabs plus regular liquid ferts essential. Placement: Midground focal point; give each plant space to develop its full leaf spread. Propagation: Very slow via runners; separate carefully to avoid disturbing established plants.
