Cryptocoryne parva
Also known as: Dwarf Crypt, Parva Crypt, Miniature Cryptocoryne
Origin: Sri Lanka (TC cultivar)
Cryptocoryne parva holds the distinction of being the smallest Cryptocoryne species, remaining under 8 cm even when fully mature, with narrow, grass-like bright green leaves. It is native to Sri Lanka and was long considered difficult in the hobby due to its slow growth and contamination from conventionally sourced plants. The tissue culture format resolves this completely, delivering clean, sterile plantlets that establish steadily and eventually form a beautiful, natural-looking Crypt foreground without the snail and algae issues of pot-grown specimens.
Light: Low to medium; steady, moderate light produces the most compact, dense growth. CO2: Not required; very slow without CO2 but still progresses in low-tech tanks. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs; fine substrate aids root establishment. Planting: Expose crown; plant densely (3–4 cm spacing) for a foreground lawn effect. Growth: Very slow; the slowest of all Cryptocoryne — expect 3–6 months for a dense carpet.
