Cryptocoryne petchii
Also known as: Petch's Crypt, Sri Lanka Petchii
Origin: Sri Lanka
Cryptocoryne petchii is native to the rivers of Sri Lanka and is closely related to C. becketii, sharing its exceptional adaptability and ease of care. Its narrow, slightly wavy leaves are olive-green to warm brown, depending on light conditions, and it forms a neat, compact rosette that suits nano aquariums and small planted tanks equally well. It is one of the most forgiving Cryptocoryne species available — tolerating variable water chemistry, infrequent fertilisation, and low light with minimal complaint.
Light: Low to medium; one of the most shade-tolerant Crypt species available. CO2: Not required; thrives in low-tech setups without injection. Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs; grows in almost any substrate type. Planting: Expose crown; plant in small groups of 3–5 for a natural clumping effect. Growth: Slow; exceptionally stable once established — rarely melts in normal conditions.
