Cryptocoryne petchii
Also known as: Compact Petchii, Dwarf Petchii Crypt
Origin: Sri Lanka
Cryptocoryne petchii 'Compact' is a selected cultivar of the well-known Sri Lankan species Cryptocoryne petchii, chosen for its more restrained growth habit and smaller leaf size compared to the standard form. Leaves are the characteristic brownish-green with a pleasingly hammered surface and slightly wavy margins. It is one of the most forgiving Cryptocoryne for beginners, tolerating a broad range of water parameters and low lighting without decline. Its compact form means it can be used effectively in smaller aquariums where the standard petchii might outgrow the space. Regular runner production makes it easy to propagate and spread across the foreground.
Light: Low to moderate; one of the most light-tolerant Cryptocoryne — thrives in shade. CO2: Not required; grows reliably in low-tech, non-injected setups. Fertilisation: Root tabs beneficial; low fertiliser demand makes it budget-friendly. Placement: Foreground to midground; excellent beginner crypt for any size tank. Propagation: Prolific runner production; separate daughter plants once rooted.
