Cryptocoryne striolata
Also known as: Striped Crypt, Striolata Crypt
Origin: Borneo
Cryptocoryne striolata is a little-known species from Borneo whose leaves display a distinctive fine, parallel striping pattern (striolata = finely striped in Latin) running along the leaf blade, visible as a subtle iridescent sheen when the light hits at the right angle. The leaves are lance-shaped in dark green and the plant forms compact rosettes. It is demanding in terms of water chemistry, preferring soft, acidic conditions in a mature and stable aquarium, and rewards patient collectors with a uniquely beautiful foliar display.
Light: Low; leaf iridescence most visible under warm, angled aquarium lighting. CO2: Beneficial; soft acidic water with CO2 produces finest results. Substrate: Fine, peat-enriched substrate with root tabs for sustained nutrition. Planting: Expose crown; position as a specimen plant with good sightlines. Growth: Slow; allow 4–8 weeks for establishment before expecting new leaf growth.
