Cryptocoryne walkeri
Also known as: Walker's Crypt, Yellow-green Crypt
Origin: Asia
Cryptocoryne walkeri is a widely distributed Sri Lankan species that has proven itself one of the most adaptable Crypts in cultivation, tolerating both soft acidic water and moderately hard alkaline water with equal ease. Its leaves are yellow-green to olive, lance-shaped, and up to 20 cm tall, forming compact rosettes in the midground. It spreads steadily via runners once established, gradually building natural-looking colonies. It is an excellent entry-level Crypt for aquarists new to the genus, reliably surviving the transition without significant 'crypt melt'.
Light: Low to medium (15–40 PAR); highly adaptable to various lighting conditions. CO2: Not required; performs well without injection. Fertiliser: Root tabs every 4 months; monthly liquid fertiliser maintains vibrant colouration. Planting: Midground; plant in clusters of 3–5 rosettes 4–5 cm apart; keep crown above substrate. Growth: Slow to moderate; reaches 10–20 cm; runner-based spread; minimal maintenance required.
