Cryptocoryne wendtii
Also known as: Mi Oya Wendtii, Wendtii Mi Oya, Mi Oya Crypt
Origin: Sri Lanka (Mi Oya River)
Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mi Oya' is a true locality form collected from the Mi Oya river drainage in Sri Lanka and selected for its superior leaf size, texture, and colour. Its leaves are broader and more heavily corrugated than standard wendtii varieties, with a rich bronze-brown colouration that intensifies to deep copper-brown under medium light. While sharing the hardiness of all C. wendtii forms, this locality variant is particularly prized by collectors seeking the finest expression of the species.
Light: Low to medium; bronze colouration most impressive under medium light. CO2: Not required; optional supplementation for maximum leaf size. Substrate: Rich substrate with root tabs; iron supplementation enhances bronze tones. Planting: Expose crown; space 12–15 cm apart — leaves are broader than standard wendtii. Growth: Slow; one of the most rewarding wendtii forms once established.
