Taxiphyllum sp. 'Peacock Moss'
Also known as: Peacock Moss, Fan Moss
Origin: South-East Asia

Taxiphyllum sp. 'Peacock Moss' is a distinctive aquatic moss from Southeast Asia, characterized by its fan-shaped or peacock-feather-like fronds that spread outward in a flat, layered manner — creating a distinctly different texture from Java Moss or Christmas Moss. Each side branch spreads in a flat plane, giving the overall moss mass an ornate, structured appearance.
Peacock Moss is popular in the aquascaping hobby for its unique visual quality: unlike the tangled, irregular mass of Java Moss or the tiered pattern of Christmas Moss, Peacock Moss provides a more structured, almost architectural appearance. It is particularly effective when attached to angular rocks or smooth driftwood branches where its flat fans can spread unobstructed.
Like most aquatic mosses, Peacock Moss is relatively easy to care for. It tolerates a range of water conditions and grows without CO2, though CO2 and medium-high light produce much richer, denser growth with better color saturation. It is propagated by separating portions and attaching them to new surfaces.
Dennerle offers Peacock Moss as a high-quality tissue culture product, ensuring a clean introduction free of algae, pest snails, and aquatic pests.
Light: Low to medium-high light (10–50 PAR). Grows slowly in low light; CO2 and medium-high light produce the best structure and color.
CO2: Optional. CO2 injection (10–20 mg/L) produces denser, more structured growth.
Attachment: Tie to rocks or driftwood using fishing line or dark thread. Attaches naturally over 4–8 weeks. Alternatively, glue with aquatic gel glue.
Placement: Midground hardscape attachment. Works well on angular stones or branches where the fan structure can spread flat.
Maintenance: Trim outer growth to maintain defined borders and prevent excessive density. Net out any floating pieces.
Water Parameters: pH 5.5–8.0, temperature 15–28°C. Tolerant and adaptable.
