Lemna minor
Origin: Cosmopolitan
Duckweed (Lemna minor) is the world's smallest flowering plant and one of the fastest-growing aquatic plants, providing a dense green carpet across the water surface that efficiently removes nitrates and phosphates. A natural live food source for herbivorous fish, koi, and goldfish. Sold by Belgian and Dutch shops by the portion for aquariums, ponds, and biotope setups.
Add a small portion to the water surface — it spreads naturally. No substrate, fertilizer, or CO2 needed. Remove excess portions weekly to prevent complete light blockage. A useful indicator plant — yellowing indicates nutrient deficiency. Do not release into natural waterways as it is considered invasive in some areas outside its native range.
