Echinodorus 'Reni'
Also known as: Reni Sword, Tropica Reni
Origin: Cultivar
Echinodorus 'Reni' was developed by Tropica Aquarium Plants and is named after a renowned aquarist. It is a restrained grower, staying compact at 20–30 cm, which makes it ideal for medium-sized aquariums. The leaf surface carries irregular reddish-brown to maroon spotting on an olive-green background — a pattern that varies subtly between leaves and changes with water conditions and lighting. Its manageable size and reliable colouration make it one of the most popular Echinodorus cultivars among aquascapers.
Light: Medium (30–60 PAR); mottling is most pronounced under medium-high light. CO2: Beneficial; injection supports robust growth and vibrant spotting. Fertiliser: Root tabs every 3 months; weekly liquid fertiliser with iron and potassium. Planting: Ideal midground centrepiece; expose the crown fully; plant singly or in a trio with 10 cm spacing. Growth: Compact at 20–30 cm; propagates on flower runners — detach daughter plants once well-rooted.
