Echinodorus 'Rose'
Also known as: Rose Sword, Pink Sword
Origin: Cultivar
Echinodorus 'Rose' is a cultivar bred for its distinctive warm-pink to rose-red leaf colouration, which is maintained well under medium-to-high lighting with adequate nutrition. Unlike some red Echinodorus cultivars that revert to green in low light, 'Rose' retains reasonable colour even in moderate conditions. It stays more compact than the large Amazon Swords, typically reaching 20–35 cm, making it a superb focal plant for tanks from 60 cm upward. It propagates by producing plantlets on flower runners.
Light: Medium to high (40–70 PAR); pink colouration intensifies under brighter conditions. CO2: Beneficial; CO2 injection noticeably improves leaf size and colour vibrancy. Fertiliser: Root tabs every 3 months; liquid fertiliser with elevated iron and micronutrients weekly. Planting: Use as a midground centrepiece; plant singly with 10–15 cm clear radius; expose crown fully. Growth: Reaches 20–35 cm; propagates via flower stalks bearing daughter plants — detach once 4–5 leaves form.
