Echinodorus uruguayensis
Origin: South America
Echinodorus uruguayensis is a handsome sword plant from South America featuring long, narrow dark green leaves with attractively wavy margins as the plant matures. It stays more compact than E. bleheri, making it well-suited to medium-sized aquariums where space is limited. A popular and reliably stocked species in Belgian and Dutch aquarium shops.
Plant in nutrient-rich substrate in the midground or background. Medium lighting is sufficient without CO2. Root tab fertilization significantly improves growth and leaf colour. Avoid extremely soft, acidic water — tolerates a wider hardness range than many Echinodorus species. Produces adventitious plantlets on flower stalks that can be separated when they develop roots.
