Egeria densa
Origin: South America
Egeria densa (Brazilian waterweed) is a vigorous oxygenating stem plant with bright green leaves arranged in dense whorls, sold in virtually every Belgian and Dutch aquarium shop. It thrives with minimal care and grows rapidly, outcompeting algae by absorbing excess nutrients from the water column. One of the most practical and widely available background plants for community tanks.
Simply place bunches loosely in the substrate or allow to float. No CO2 or special fertilization required. Grows very rapidly in nutrient-rich water — trim back regularly to maintain desired length and prevent shading of lower plants. Root wherever it touches substrate. Excellent for new tank cycling as a natural ammonia buffer.
