Eleocharis acicularis
Also known as: Needle Spikerush, Hair Grass, Dwarf Hair Grass
Origin: Cosmopolitan (TC cultivar)
Eleocharis acicularis is a cosmopolitan rush found on every inhabited continent, growing as a submerged grass-like plant in shallow, slow-moving water. In the aquarium it forms a fine, needle-thin foreground carpet of upright bright green stems that is synonymous with the clean, elegant aesthetic of Iwagumi aquascaping. The tissue culture format delivers pest and algae-free plantlets that can be planted directly without risk of introducing unwanted organisms.
Light: Medium; taller, less dense growth under low light — medium light produces a tighter mat. CO2: Beneficial; CO2 supplementation greatly improves density and growth speed. Substrate: Fine, nutrient-rich substrate; a nutritious bottom layer encourages lateral spread. Planting: Rinse TC gel; plant small bunches 2–3 cm apart across the foreground. Growth: Slow to moderate; trim occasionally with scissors to maintain even height.
