Eriocaulon quinquangulare
Also known as: Eriocaulon, Five-angled Pipewort
Origin: South/Southeast Asia
Eriocaulon quinquangulare is native to shallow wetlands across South and Southeast Asia and is one of the most widely used Eriocaulon species in competitive aquascaping. Each plant forms a tight, symmetrical star of narrow, bright green leaves radiating from a central crown. It demands soft, acidic water, high light, and pressurised CO2 to thrive long-term; in suboptimal conditions it slowly declines rather than adapting. Groups of three to five plants spaced 3–4 cm apart create a refined foreground detail that reads as both natural and precise.
Light: High; minimum 60–80 PAR at substrate level for healthy rosette formation. CO2: Required; 25–35 ppm via pressurised injection is non-negotiable. Water: pH 5.5–6.8, very soft (GH 0–6), low KH (0–3). Planting: Plant individual rosettes into fine substrate; leave crown exposed. Growth: Slow; do not disturb established plants; remove outer dying leaves individually.
