Eriocaulon setaceum
Origin: Asia, Africa
Eriocaulon setaceum is a widely distributed species found across tropical Asia and Africa, producing slender, bristle-like leaves arranged in a neat starburst rosette pattern. Despite its broader natural range compared to other Eriocaulon species, it remains a demanding aquarium plant that rewards the skilled aquarist with exceptional texture and character in the foreground. It grows slowly but steadily under high lighting and consistent CO2 injection in soft, slightly acidic water low in carbonates. Its fine-textured rosette adds a uniquely delicate and natural quality to competition aquascapes and Nature Aquarium-style layouts.
Plant in fine, nutrient-rich substrate in soft, acidic water with near-zero KH for best results. High-intensity lighting and consistent CO2 injection are required for healthy growth. Supplement with liquid iron and micronutrients. Avoid hard or alkaline water — high KH inhibits growth and causes leaf deterioration. Grows slowly; do not disturb once established. Best used as a specimen or in small groups at the foreground.
