Eriocaulon sp. 'Japan'
Origin: Japan
Eriocaulon sp. 'Japan' is sourced from specialist Japanese aquatic plant farms and is highly regarded in the competition aquascaping community for the extraordinary precision of its spherical rosette form. Individual plants develop a dense globe of deep, rich green hair-like leaves that maintain perfect symmetry under ideal conditions, making each plant a miniature living sculpture. While slightly more accessible than some extreme Eriocaulon forms, it still demands soft, acidic conditions and strong lighting with CO2 supplementation to produce its characteristic tight, ball-shaped rosette. One of the most coveted and frequently photographed foreground plants in high-end aquascape compositions.
Maintain in soft, acidic water (GH 2–6, KH 0–3) with consistent CO2 injection. Plant in fine aquasoil substrate and illuminate with high-output lighting. Regular liquid micronutrient dosing supports healthy leaf color and compact rosette development. Grows slowly — allow 4–6 weeks for establishment before judging results. A highlight plant best featured in the foreground with adequate surrounding space.
