Eriocaulon sp. 'Type 3'

Eriocaulon sp. 'Type 3' is one of the more enigmatic and collectible varieties in the genus, producing a dense globe of fine, grass-like leaves with a characteristic pale green center that gives each rosette a subtle but striking bicolored appearance. Its origins remain not fully classified, adding to its mystique among planted tank enthusiasts. The symmetrical, almost perfect spherical rosette form makes it exceptional for competition-level compositions. Like all demanding Eriocaulon species, it requires very soft, acidic water kept low in carbonates, high-intensity lighting, and consistent CO2 injection to maintain its characteristic compact form and coloration.

Maintain in very soft, acidic water (GH 1–4, KH 0–2) with CO2 injection at 20–30 ppm and high-intensity lighting. Fine aquasoil substrate is essential. Dose liquid micronutrients including iron and trace elements regularly. Grows slowly — place carefully using tweezers and avoid disturbing established rosettes. Best displayed as a specimen plant or in carefully spaced groups in the foreground.
