Fissidens Moss

Fissidens fontanus is a premium feathery moss from North America, highly prized by aquascapers for its ultra-fine, comb-like fronds arranged in precise alternating pairs that create exceptional texture and visual depth on stones, driftwood, and other submerged hardscape. Its structured, architectural growth pattern is far more refined than the loosely tangled appearance of Java Moss, making it a favorite in competition aquascaping and high-end planted displays. It grows slowly but steadily under low to medium light, with CO2 injection improving density and a richer green coloration. Performs best in soft, slightly acidic water with moderate water flow across the fronds.

Attach to hardscape with fine cotton thread, fishing line, or mesh backing. Grows well in low to medium light — CO2 is recommended but not strictly required. Trim periodically to maintain shape and prevent lower fronds from shading out and dying. Prefers cooler temperatures; avoid prolonged temperatures above 25°C. Good water circulation over the moss improves growth and prevents sediment accumulation on fronds.
