Glossostigma diandrum
Also known as: Large Glosso, Two-Stamen Mudmat
Origin: Australia / New Zealand
Glossostigma diandrum is closely related to the iconic G. elatinoides but bears slightly larger, more oval leaves that spread in a similar low, creeping mat across the substrate. The tissue culture form ensures a completely algae and snail-free introduction, which is particularly important for demanding carpet plants that are susceptible to competition from algae during establishment. Like its smaller sibling, G. diandrum requires high light and CO2 to creep rather than grow upward. Once established it spreads steadily via stolons, forming a dense, bright-green carpet. Trim regularly to keep the mat tightly pressed to the substrate. Performs best in soft, slightly acidic water with a fine sand or aquasoil substrate.
Light: High CO2: Required Fertilisation: Macro and micro dosing; nutrient-rich substrate preferred Placement: Foreground carpet Propagation: Stolons spread naturally; divide mat into sections to expand coverage
