Glossostigma elatinoides
Origin: Japan / New Zealand / Australia
Glossostigma elatinoides — Glosso — is a traditional carpet plant from Japan/New Zealand with tiny, tongue-shaped leaves that creep along the substrate. Under high light and CO2 it forms an extraordinarily dense, bright green carpet that mimics grass-filled natural streambeds. It was the original aquascape carpet plant, used by Takashi Amano in many of his legendary Nature Aquarium layouts. Tissue culture ensures it is pest-free.
Light: high (1 watt per litre minimum). CO2 injection essential for carpet growth. Nutrients: iron-rich substrate fertiliser. Temperature: 20–28°C. Can grow emersed in low-tech tanks as foreground highlight.
