Hemianthus callitrichoides
Also known as: HC Amano, Amano Dwarf Baby Tears
Origin: Cuba
Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Amano' is a tissue culture selection prized for a marginally larger leaf size and more vigorous growth than classic HC Cuba, making it slightly easier to establish. It forms a flat, dense, lime-green carpet hugging the substrate, achieving the iconic Nature Aquarium foreground look. This in-vitro plant arrives snail and algae free, ready to be divided into small plugs and pressed gently into fine substrate. High light and CO2 injection are essential for lateral, creeping growth. Without adequate light the plant will etiolate upward rather than carpet. Iron and macro fertilisation accelerate spread. Once established, regular trimming every two to three weeks keeps the mat tight and prevents lifting.
Light: High (>50 PAR at substrate) CO2: Required (20–30 mg/L) Fertilisation: Rich macro and micro dosing; iron important Placement: Foreground carpet Propagation: Divide stems and press plugs into substrate 2–3 cm apart
