Hydrocotyle leucocephala
Also known as: Brazilian Pennywort, Water Pennywort
Origin: Brazil / South America
Hydrocotyle leucocephala, commonly known as Brazilian Pennywort, is a versatile and hardy plant appreciated by beginners and experts alike. In tissue culture form it establishes quickly without the risk of introducing hitchhiking pests. The round, slightly ruffled leaves grow alternately along thin, fast-growing stems and can be planted in the midground or background, or left to trail along the surface. It grows rapidly even in low-tech setups, making it useful for nutrient export during tank cycling. Under higher light the stems branch more densely and produce a fuller, more decorative appearance. Trimming the tops encourages lateral bushiness. Extremely adaptable to a wide pH and hardness range.
Light: Low–high (adapts widely) CO2: Not required but beneficial Fertilisation: Basic macro and micro dosing Placement: Midground, background, or surface trailing Propagation: Trim stems and replant top cuttings
