Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides
Also known as: Lawn Marshpennywort, Lawn Pennywort
Origin: Asia / Africa
Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides is a charming, diminutive pennywort whose tiny kidney-shaped leaves and creeping habit produce one of the finest-textured aquatic carpets available. The tissue culture form is free from algae spores and unwanted fauna, allowing a clean start in any aquascape. It spreads via delicate, thread-like runners across the substrate surface and also does well in emersed, terrarium, or paludarium settings. Growth is moderate and the plant tolerates a range of light levels, though high light and CO2 produce the tightest, most uniform carpet. It is particularly effective in nano aquascapes and Wabi-Kusa compositions. Regular misting or high humidity encourages emersed growth.
Light: Medium–high CO2: Beneficial Fertilisation: Light macro and micro dosing Placement: Foreground carpet; also suitable for paludariums Propagation: Runners spread naturally; divide mat sections for transplanting
