Hydrocotyle tripartita
Also known as: Tripartita, Three-Lobed Pennywort, Hydrocotyle Japan
Origin: Southeast Asia / Australia
Hydrocotyle tripartita is one of the most popular carpeting plants in modern aquascaping, valued for its distinctive three-lobed leaves and rapid lateral spread. The tissue culture form arrives free of algae, snails, and pathogens, ready to be divided and planted across the foreground or midground. Under high light and CO2 it creeps tightly across the substrate; under lower light it grows upward, forming a lush, layered bush. Growth rate is fast, and plants may need trimming every one to two weeks in high-tech setups. Regular dosing with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium keeps the foliage a rich, saturated green. An excellent choice for both Nature Aquarium and Dutch-style compositions.
Light: Medium–high CO2: Beneficial (15–25 mg/L for carpet habit) Fertilisation: Full macro and micro dosing recommended Placement: Foreground carpet or midground bush Propagation: Trim and replant side runners; divide tissue culture plug into 1 cm sections
